Updates Day Two:
Ret falls to HuK 1-2 in some close games, then loses 0-2 to DRG to drop out of the tournament in the fourth round of losers. Overall a great run, however.
Updates Day One:
11:56 CST[local]: Tomorrow HuK. In the meantime, back to Assembly!
11:40 CST: That was revenge for the banjo.
11:32 CST: Ret takes out MVP 2-1 with a really decisive win on Daybreak. With beautiful counter-attacking and better macro, management, and army control on multiple fronts than the GSL champion. Incredible win.
10:58 CST: 1-1 now as MVP holds a roach-ling all-in well and then never gives up the lead to take a win.
10:39 CST: Ret takes the first game against MVP, with some wonderful play surviving constant pressure at his third and eventually running over the Korean. Can the upset happen?
9:17 CST: The day is saved as Ret overcomes SaSe 2-1 to advance to the next round 2-1. Next opponent is MVP. Gulp. But Ret's been playing so well lately, he certainly has a chance.
8:55 CST: Sheth falls 0-2 to ThorZaIN. This is not looking so good, after HerO's opening domination, it hasn't been the best of days for Liquid. Ret is the last hope and he's down 0-1 to SaSe.
6:47 CST: HayprO starts off the day, but can't get past SjoW in two scrappy games. Not the best of starts, but there's always the losers bracket.
Day one of Assembly Winter is in the books. In Helsinki, Liquid` had a mixed day, with HerO dominating his group, but Jinro falling out after a tough series against elfi, and TLO dropping out of his group as well. Tomorrow we'll look to see what kind of damage HerO can do in the bracket, and with Jinro, TLO, and Bumblebee's support, hopefully he can go far!
But for the meantime the focus of the esports world now shifts to New York, as the inaugural event of the MLG season kicks off with MLG Winter Arena!
As you read this, HayprO, Ret, and Sheth, are all preparing in the MLG Studios for the competition. Each are seeded into a massively stacked bracket, with HayprO playing SjoW, Sheth playing ThorZaIN, and Ret dueling SaSe all in the first round.
What did Sweden do to deserve such a beatdown? We're not sure either.
Because the event is PPV, we know that many people will not be able to tune in to the games. Therefore we'll try to keep everyone updated with @TeamLiquidPro and on this page. Also check out the TL.net and Liquipedia coverage of the event for results.
The opening match for Liquid` will be HayprO's battle against countryman d.SjoW, which will be played at 17:00 CST. This is a tough fight, HayprO has been sick recently, and not able to make the most of his time leading up to the end. SjoW meanwhile has been playing well, although mostly out of the public eye recently. He's always been a dangerous opponent, who is consistently not seen as a threat until he starts beating people. Hopefully HayprO can keep the terran from starting his rampage in the first round.
After the next set of games, Sheth and Ret will both begin their series at 19:00 CST. Dual stream this one for sure, because both matches should be epic fights. Sheth and his newly amazing ZvT and post-EG-all-kill confidence will hope to fork the spoon terran mouz.ThorZaIN. The last time ThorZaIN came to New York, he left with a substantial amount of money. However, if the Swedish terran has any large weaknesses, TvZ might be one of them. Although one of the smartest players in the entire world, Sheth is equal to the task of dismantling the passive and precise style of the Swede. His confidence is sky high, and for once he's nowhere near HerO in a bracket. This might be his weekend.
And of course, at the same time, Ret will take on Quantic.SaSe, who has been training hard in Korea for a while. Although we've seen many flashes of brilliance from the protoss in the past, (and he is a brilliant player, honestly) the last few months have been underwhelming. Ret in the meantime has really been having tremendous success in ZvP recently, winning 8 of his last 10, including a 3-0 stomp of TypeReaL at IEM São Paulo. He will have plenty of confidence, even against a player of SaSe's calibre.
