Karla's Kitchen

April 18 2017

You may not know this, but the TL house is famed for being the best smelling in esports. Our secret weapon is Chef Karla! She is responsible for keeping our teams fed and letting them focus on their scrims. We had the chance to chat with Karla between meals and wanted to give you guys some insight on the behind the scenes of the TL house.

Bon Appétit!

Hey Karla, introduce yourself to the Liquid fans! What's your history as a chef been like?
Hi, my name is Karla and I am the chef at the TL house in LA. I studied culinary arts at Long Beach Job Corps. When I graduated, I went to Cordon Bleu to get more knowledge on cooking techniques. I went to competitions in San Francisco and met Chef Irvine from the Food Network. It was the best experience ever.

I later started my own catering company called Karla Catering. I did weddings, sweet sixteens, and baby showers. I cooked for 300 people one time.

At my first school I was one of the best students but I had a big mouth. My first instructor showed me that there's more to the craft than just cooking. Food brings people together. He opened my eyes I want to become the best chef ever and cook always with love.

Is that something you see with the players? Everybody coming together and relaxing over a meal?
Yes, it makes me so happy when they enjoy it, and when they're all together and talking and laughing instead of fighting or stressing. I love my players and everybody that works with me. That's why every time I cook it shows the love I have for them.

Do you have much interaction with the players between meals?
They usually do their own thing but they will also come talk to me about what's going on in their lives and I love to listen.

So you mentioned how going to a competition and meeting Chef Irvine. How did that go down?

Well my team was cooking for a competition and then he just walked in. My jaw dropped and then he asked what we were making. I was so nervous! He asked me if he could try it and he said it needed more sugar...

So I told him this is not Denny's, and he threw the spoon, and got really pissed and walked off lol!

That is a great celebrity encounter! What were you cooking?
I was making the dessert which was a green tea panna cotta with blueberry sauce. I drew out a butterfly made of chocolate. It was so yummy.

With just the right amount of sugar?
Yes!

Well it's almost dinner time, do you have any other funny stories from the house?
Umm yes, this New Year's Eve, Steve thought it would be a good idea to hang things all over the wall and mess up my decorations...

Jokasteve messed yup your decorations?! o.0
Ya, bad boy lol

Jokasteve attempts to defend himself: Hahaha, I tied like anything I could find in the house to her balloons. Karla is always adding the holiday spirit around the house, for every holiday you can expect a themed dish.

Why Steve? Why!

.. And her decorating the kitchen, she brings a touch of the normal outside world into the gaming house. Otherwise, holidays would be pretty much forgotten lol.

Well thanks Karla for taking the time to chat.
No worries, can't wait for this to come out!
